Mechanical Man

The Mechanical Man was created in 1972 while Norman was a graduate student at Pennsylvania State University.

It was caste in mix of kaolin clay powder and polyester resin from a plaster mold taken from a clay original. The jaw was caste in bronze.

The piece had an internal timed electric motor that would actuate the jaw for about 30 seconds approximately every 5 minutes.

The alternate title, "I Am Not A CrooK" was a famous quote from Richard Nixon, who was the US president at the time of the pieces creation.

Unfortunately, the piece was destroyed in the late 1970's.
